Personalized testing and supplement program
Fibromyalgia is a culmination of life events and health imbalances that come together in what I like to call a “perfect storm” in the body.
My Fibromyalgia natural treatments are extremely effective. I have numerous patients that no longer consider themselves to have fibromyalgia.
Once I determine all of your underlying conditions, I will prescribe professional-grade natural supplements. The initial goal is to restore sleep, followed by pain and fatigue issues. Typically, brain fog and digestive problems are often the final piece to fall into place. At that point, you are usually past the worst of it. This could take 4-6 months, depending upon the severity of your case.
Dr. Mayfield has created have increased my energy, reduced my pain, and greatly enhanced my immune system. I used to get numerous sinus and bronchial infections each year. They have been reduced dramatically since I began Dr. Mayfield’s protocol. Thank you for making my fibromyalgia more manageable. It is easier to live each day now. * Marilyn
The loss of sleep exacerbated my fibromyalgia symptoms even more. Dr. Mayfield’s help not only relieved the pain and soreness, but blessed sleep followed as well. * J.H.
Throughout this time period, you will also be coming in weekly or every other week for hands-on physical pain relief. My style of chiropractic is non-force and extremely well-suited for sensitive fibromyalgia sufferers. Read more about the BEST technique here. I also do some “old-fashioned” chiropractic techniques, that address the organs and nervous system of the body, not just the muscles and bones.
This is a complete program, so well thought out, well planned and thoroughly explained…like clock-work. I no longer need a gastroenterologist for stomach and digestive problems, a rheumatologist for fibromyalgia pain, an internist for insomnia and depression or an endocrinologist for hormone imbalance. * Sherry L.
In my late 40’s, I went to my Family doctor with stiffness and muscle and joint pain. I hurt so bad. He diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and prescribed some muscle relaxers and hydrocodone and told me to go to a Rheumatologist. This doctor put me on Cymbalta and Gabapentin. While these drugs helped a little, I ended up emotionally worse and with even more side effects. Dr. Mayfield worked with me and my MD to wean off the meds. 4 months later, seemingly suddenly one day I just noticed I was not stiff and my pain was remarkably better. I’m off all the meds now, and my symptoms have stayed away for over a year now. No pain, sleep great, energy to get through the day, and great moods! * S. Harper.
At this point, you can feel like you got your life back.
You can be pain-free.
You can regain the use of your sharp mind.
You can go through the day without having to lie down frequently.
You can exercise again.
You can enjoy your children and family again.
And blessedly, you can sleep through the night again.
Let me tell you what it will take for you to recover, because you deserve the whole story.
It won’t be easy.
It will take longer than you want it to take.
You will be taking a lot of supplements for a few months.
Parts of it might be expensive, especially the first few months.
You probably won’t feel like you are significantly better for at least two months, and you’ll question if it is working.
And it’s so worth it.
What is the natural approach to treat fibromyalgia?
You might be taking synthetic medications such as Lyrica or Cymbalta to help treat your symptoms of fibromyalgia. While these drugs might help for a while, they are not a permanent cure. And they have their own side-effects that many can’t tolerate.
There are 6 components to treating Fibromyalgia naturally. Sleep, Hormones, Immune System, Digestion, Emotions and Neurotransmitters. I consider Fibromyalgia to be a perfect storm of all of these factors. When you feel good, they dance beautifully. With fibro, they stumble all over each other, often injuring each other in the process, or they just stop communicating together like a surly teenager.
Sleep. Most fibromyalgia patients say that lack of refreshing sleep is their biggest issue. Sleep is so important to everything that this is what I always treat first. It can sometimes be the toughest to correct. Sleeping well again is a result of neurotransmitters in the brain and hormones in the rest of your body working correctly again.
Hormonal balance. Balancing your thyroid, adrenal, and female hormones not only helps sleep issues, but also helps pain, brain fog and energy. Using thorough testing gives us the starting point, and there may be several possible routes to solve the issues found.
Immune health. Part of the perfect storm that is Fibromyalgia lies in the immune system – bacteria, viruses, yeasts, or parasites. Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus and Lyme disease are often associated with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Many Fibromyalgia patients have told me that they were never the same after they had a bad bout with the flu, or a staph infection, or were on antibiotics for a long time.
Neurotransmitters. I have a high level of success treating issues like brain fog, depression, anxiety, carb cravings, low energy, and even pain utilizing neurotransmitter testing and treatment with targeted amino acids. Serotonin, Dopamine, GABA, Cortisol, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and more will be holistically evaluated and treated.
Digestion. Everything starts in the gut. A crude way to put it, but true nonetheless. Vitamins are absorbed from food through the lining of the small intestine; if this doesn’t happen effectively, your cells can’t function properly. Scientists refer to the gut (the small and large intestines) as the “second brain” due to the high amount of neurotransmitter and neurological activity there. Whether you have GI distress due to candida overgrowth (yeast), Irritable Bowels from too much serotonin in the guts, or bloody inflamed bowels from food allergies, this must be fixed before you can heal.
Emotions. Our suppressed emotions are the dangerous ones. And the very fact that it is suppressed, or hidden from us, means it is hard to find and fix. When we hide our emotions and don’t adequately express them, then eventually the emotional issues display in physical ways.
Try as you might to treat your symptom from a physiological place, you can never truly heal without uncovering and lovingly experiencing any suppressed emotions. 90% of the time, Fibromyalgia has a “precipitating” event, some trauma that happened and you were never the same since.
For some patients, it is an illness related to immune dysfunction, for most of the rest, it is an emotional trauma. Divorce, death of a loved one, abrupt unacceptable changes, abuse and injury are the most common. Sometimes it is healed naturally as you feel better and can deal with the trauma, and sometimes you will fare better with the add-on use of a trusted psychotherapist or counselor.
A New Scientific Approach to Chronic Fatigue
There are several immunological, neurological, and hormonal therapies currently being used for CFS. Assessment of immune markers, neurotransmitters, and hormones can allow Dr. Mayfield to determine the root cause of CFS symptoms as well as guide treatment.
- Cognitive issues, including impaired memory or concentration
- Feelings of malaise lasting more than 24 hours (exhaustion and increased symptoms)
- Unrefreshing sleep
- Joint pain (without redness or swelling)
- Persistent muscle pain
- Headaches of a new type or severity
