Natural Thyroid Support Comes from Within

A wide range of factors from hormone imbalances to mineral deficiencies and environmental pollutants can interfere with thyroid production.

The thyroid gland is a very reactive organ and often struggles as a result of another underlying dysfunction in your body.

Statistics show that women are seven times more likely than men to develop thyroid problems, facing as much as a one in five chance of developing a problem particularly during the peri-menopause years when hormones start to fluctuate.

Many herbs can support the body’s ability to produce thyroid hormones. Other factors like progesterone also support thyroid function.

“I went to see Dr. Mayfield because my hair was thinning and my energy waning, but I wasn’t interested in the thyroid treatment recommended by the endocrinologist I saw. Dr. Mayfield started me on some natural supplements that after a month resulted in thicker hair and restored energy. My hair stylist noticed the thicker hair and my friends commented on the increased energy. Dr. Mayfield knows her stuff!”*

Testing the Thyroid

Thyroid function is one of the few organs best tested with bloodwork. However, only testing TSH, as is the standard of the medical boards, is not enough at my clinic. You can have thyroid symptoms long before your TSH will show abnormality.

And yes, you CAN have thyroid dysfunction and all of your bloodwork will be normal! Signs and symptoms are equally as important as lab tests. Perhaps in that moment in time of the blood draw your numbers are normal but on their way down? Or up?

You must do a thorough thyroid profile including antibodies to rule out Hashimoto’s. There are more tests to consider beyond these as well, such as iodine and heavy metal testing.

The Art of Healing

Holistic Doctor for Thyroid ProblemsThe thyroid resides in the throat, where our energy for self-expression is stored. Are you fully expressing yourself?

Are you speaking up for your boundaries in appropriate ways, or do you suppress speaking out for fear of hurting other’s feelings?

Do you believe you are being your authentic self? Suppressing these parts of yourself can inhibit healthy thyroid function.

The Science of Healing

Most traditional doctors rely on outdated standards for testing thyroid function. If you feel you have thyroid symptoms, do not consider their declaration that “nothing is wrong with your thyroid” without further investigation.

Did you know even if you have been on thyroid medications for years, you can still have signs of less than optimal thyroid function? It might not be resolving the entire issue.
